I am presently accessing this BBS with a PC. Any advice for a good combination
of modem and communications software for the AMIGA? I require VT100 emulation
and will buy a 9600 baud unit if I can
There are at least 2 comm. packages that should meet your requirements. One of
the best all around programs is VLT. This package provides excellent vt100
emulation as well as one of the tectronics emulation modes. It also features
the XPR file transfer protocol libraries (an external file transfer protocol).
It is free and is probably avaliable on CIS there are 2 versions VLT and VLTjr,
the difference being that "jr" doesn't have the tectronics emulation. You
absolutely can't go wrong by getting this one.
The other terminal program that I am familiar with that would give you vt100 is
TERM. The current version of this is 3.2. It also has XPR as well as XEM
which allows for external terminal emulation. This program is IMHO not quite
as reliable as VLT and seems to suffer more packet errors than VLT, at least on
my 4000. It does have alot more bells and whistles that are interesting and
IMHO is a little bit easier to use than VLT. This is a "giftware" program where
the author requests you send him a gift that you suppose will due as a payment
for the program.
I'm sure there are alot more good comm. programs out there but these are the 2
that I am familiar with.
Modems: A good subject to say the least. I use a Supra 14,400FAX modem and
have had good results with it. Alot of others seem to have problems with the
Supra modems. I'm sure someone else on CIS has a much stronger opinion than I
on modems.
