Viewpoint's price for custom digitizing a vehicle would start at about $1,200. This would be for exterior only, and would be a low resolution Dataset. It is always best for us if a client can look in our current catalog, and pick out a Dataset that closely represents the resolution and level of detail that is needed. Turn around time for a low resolution vehicle should be about a week, but if needed could be as short as 3 days. A good hires, hi detail exterior could be $2,000 – $3,000. Preferred turn around time should be about 2 weeks on the average. Again, we are always willing to discuss your deadlines and do whatever we can to meet them. Other extras are interiors and engines. The main thing is that even if we don't have what somebody needs, or it doesn't look like there is enough time to digitize it, call us any way. It helps us know where we need to be for time and $. It is our goal to get both turn around time and cost down quite abit in the next year. Walter Noot (pronounced "note") coordinates our custom digitizing so call him with any questions. 1-800-DATASET. yann, we did just complete a '94 acura integra. You should call Walter to find our what model. John Thomas "J.T." – Viewpoint DataLabs

Thanks for the info. I'll file it away for future reference. I'll call walter about the 94 integra. Was it digitized so that Acura could use CG for an upcoming ad? Or did you guys just decide that you wanted to have that has part of you model suite. This brings up another question. Under what circumstances are each model digitized, is it for the manufacturer or ad agencies, or do you guys just decide: "Wow, it'd be cool to have this car as a 3d model" Just curious, Yann Bertaud – VPG, Autodesk.

Yann, <<Under what circumstances are each model digitized, is it for the manufacturer or ad agencies, or do you guys just decide: "Wow, it'd be cool to have this car as a 3d model">> Nearly all <99%> of the Datasets created is because of customer demand. Those clients range from modelers doing ad's to others doing medical illustrations to even others needing things for games or movies. I am not sure what the 94 integra was built for, but the majority of the data for our car Datasets comes from the car itself. Casey Johnson Sales Representative – Viewpoint

JT: What process of digitizing do you do for the different datasets? It everything manual, or do you use a Cyberscan type device? From what I understand, you all do it "by hand", but I'd think that it would take too much time to be charging only $1-3k. How long to the models take once you have them? Also, what rights does the customer have on the model? Do they get a percentage of the profit from the catalog sales, or does Viewpoint get the complete rights over the model? Approximately how much more would an exclusive rights model cost? Just curious. JNJ

JNJ: <<Also, what rights does the customer have on the model?>> The customer has the right to use the Dataset as often as they want to without reselling the Dataset in modified or non-modified form. In other words, we don't want you to sell the Dataset to someone who can then use it for another animation. As for getting a proprietary Dataset, there is an extra charge that is involved and it depends if you need it proprietary for only an short period of time or for good. For each Dataset that we build, we hold the exclusive rights to put it in the catalog for resell unless the Datatset is proprietary. We can, however, resell even that with your given permission. As for pricing on such things, you would need to contact Walter Noot at 1-800-328-2738 who is the Director of Custom Sales. Casey Johnson Sales Representative
