3DS3 to UVW 1800 ?sp?

Don,
Ditto on your comments about the UVW1800. Mine is just great also… I found if
you dont' tell anybody that you have an 1800 instead of a 2800 nobody is the
wiser.. I just hand off the tape and tell them it's BetaCam SP…
The cable company I deal with here still uses U-Matic stuff <yuck> so I have to
dub anyway, while the local TV stations accept BetaCam SP. As long as you're
within one or two generations I, and most others don't see any difference
either.

About the same here Tom. When people start bellyaching about the slight spec
differences between different models of the betacams I just think it's silly
and am more concerned with how the machine will hold up physically over the
years. And those doing the griping so far have been those that I never do
business with anyway. BTW the bellyachers have all been on this forum! The
only rif-raf on the Broadcast Professionals' forum has been regarding the over
sensitivity of the deck to tolerate bad input video signals. One guy was
complaining that he had to TBC all his VHS-C stuff before it would record on
the UVW. <G> He was apparently using the VHS-C signal for his reference
sync– would you believe it? The ones that pay the bills around here are
thrilled with the results and that's what counts.
How much are the UVWs going for?
Ian.
I couldn't say. With all the volitility in the Sony price gouging. They
recently raised their prices, again.
Tom,
The UVW is great! … I put bars to tape and couldn't tell the difference
between the taped bars and the original! There are differences with the sound
capabilities, the TBC, etc. … which are meaningless to the animator anyway.
The bottom line is this … you send a tape from the UVW to a BetaSP house …
they put it their machines .. they won't be able to tell a bit of difference.
Noone will say … "Hea … was this done on a UVW? … That's no good!" <g>
