Feeling a desperate need for speed, I plan to buy a Pentium to complement my 2
Amigas. Here's the question: HOW DO I NETWORK THESE COMPUTERS? I know I need
an Ethernet card in each machine. The bit I'm not clear on is can I keep all
my SCSI devices on one of the Amigas and still access them from a PC machine?
Does client/server allow the server (the PC) to read and write to the client
drives? Or do file requests have to be initiated from the client machines? I
don't want to shift all my drive space to a PC server for a few reasons,
primarily that I have about 2 years and 100 Gbytes of work stored on Amiga tape
drives (via AmiBack), secondarily that all my animation work will still go thru
a FC24 on an Amiga for output, so I can use a local hard drive for single frame
recording. HELP! I've seen discussions of a couple different Amiga networking
options, but my questions remain. Any ideas? Thanks much for any light

I am by no means a networking expert, and I haven't networked Amigas before,
however I have setup an ethernet network with PCs in my company.
You may wish to look into some sort of TCP/IP network, that allows you to use
COPY commands to move files from one computer to the other. I don't think that
it's all too easy move files from one computer to the other with a normal
network without TCP/IP. I use netbios and TCP/IP on my system at the same
time. I just have one card in my computer — a Novell Ethernet card.

Hi Jeff,
a friend of mine also has an Amiga in his Video Studio for single frame
recording. When I bring my aniamtions to him to tranfer to video we now use a
programm called twin that transfers the images from my PC to his Amiga via
serial cable. Unfortunately this is very slow (1 mb per minute) so we are
looking for a better solution. We thought about a network, too, but we haven't
found anything for a reasonable price so far. If you find a better solution
than our 1 mb per minute shi** I'd live to hear about it.
BTW, do you want to get a 100 mHz Pentium?

100 Mhz? hmmm, maybe… I've almost decided on a Dell XPS system; not the
fastest I've seen, but to get a 20% speed increase would double the cost of the
system.. and if I can get this network thing going, for twice the price I could
just use 2 machines! Still looking for the perfect net-solution…
