BB & 4091 knwn probs?

Thanks for the help on the 3128 boards the PALs worked great!
Do you know of any problems with the 4091 and 386SX Bridge Boards?
Building the virtual drive works fine, then transferring the system works
fine but I can't boot from the drive nor can I execute any of the commands
in MSDOS. I get a PACKED FILE CORRUPT error. All other aspects of the
4091 are running fine. Only the access to the bridge board is affected.

Quantum 1225S is the drive and is the ONLY drive in the system. (IDE has
been removed from the system). I've also re-installed the PC drawer and
software. Nothing seems to change the symptoms. I've heard of a PAL
upgrade for the Bridge Board. Is this available? Thanks again.

Clark,
As discussed with Jerry on the phone today, we have not had any luck in
getting the BridgeBoard to work on an A4000. Symptoms are the virtual
drive not being accessable from the PC side. This is with the IDE drive
installed with no other hardware installed. If we could get the
BridgeBoard working, I'd be more than happy to check the BB/4091
combination.

That's odd, I've had a 4000/BB combo since I had the 4000 (about a year now)
and it worked from day one. Funny thing is after I installed the 4091, a day
or two after, when I turned on the Amiga, I got a flickering POWER light with
and accompanying flickering red screen. Now, I do remember a similar situation
when I had the A2000 and it had to do with 8521A chip (mouse, joystick, floppy
controller, I believe). Coincidence!!!

I've got 3 A4000's and 3 386 bridgeboards. I've never been able to get
the Alinked drive to work in any of the A4000's. I've had no problems with
the Alinked drive when using them in A3000's.
I don't know of anything that would cause the 4091 and the bridgeboard
not to work together, but if you were to remove the 4091 and the problem
goes away, it would certainly point to the culprit. Give that a try and
let me know what happens.

Clarence: The flashing Red Screen/power light warning denotes a ROM failure.
However, this can be caused by software, and not a failure of the KS ROM chip
itself.
Scared the bejabbers out of me the first time it happened!

Thanks for the info. This makes sense since I recently got my motherboard
swapped when I got the 4091 installed. Maybe I got a defective board. I'll

I have temporarily solved the problem by making the IDE drive a dedicated
BB device and removed the contention of the devices on the A4000. So far
it seems to be working. I have never successfully gottem the A4000 to
work using anything more than a virtual drive. I've always had to have
the floppies be dedicated "real" IBM devices. More as I know it. Thanks
for the WONDERFUL support and feedback. Would that everyone was this
responsive!

Must be ghosts! 😉 Floppy drives work fine on the BB in the A4000 for
us, just not virtual drives. Now if we could combime what we've done,
we'll either end up with a completly dead system, or one that actually
works like it's supposed to.
