Late Arch-Wishes

Jonas,
I know, I'm late…. maybe you could nevertheless take these in your list (some
may have been mentioned before…):
SHAPER:
– Allow bigger grid extents. Better visibility (maybe grid-lines).
– Mixed data entry should be possible (keyboard & mouse / rel. coordinates).
GENERAL:
– This is a major pain for architectural work:
Shapes are now always in X/Y-plane and lofted in Z-direction.
I'd like to have a general choice to shape on the X/Z-plane and loft
in Y-direction for lofting shapes on a 'ground-floor', without the need
to rotate and move them later.
(Note: this has nothing to do with axes-labelling in the 3DS.SET or
the views-labels. The whole setup as it is now influences also camera
rolling etc…).
– Re view saving: 'save current' and 'restore saved' are great. Saving
views with names as an addition would be even greater.
– More 'undo' steps in all modules.
– A zoom function which could include the proxy image in the background.
– Some kind of interactivity regarding light editing (??).
Thanks! – Alexander.
Sorry Alexander. The wishlist deadline was last Friday and the door's closed
now. Suffice to say that I'm sure all of your wishes have been covered with
previous wishlists.
– G
Uuuchhh, deadline is deadline….
Well, if all wishes are covered with previous wishes… I'm the last to want to
stop you from R4 work <g>.
Thanks!
– Alexander.

So are you done yet? With R4, that is. <g> Let me know when you stop throwing
things and I'll get up from under the desk. I can't wait to see R4, even if
only 1/10th of the wishlist items are implemented. Good luck sorting through
Jonas' database. (And thanks Jonas for your <<got it>> work!)
I have no shortage of reading material.

my pleasure.

Alexander,
RE your lofting shapes on "a ground floor" wish – just rotate your path. If
you do this often, save it as your 3DS.PRJ and it will become your new
default.

Phil:
Thanks for your reply! I tried several changes some time ago…. and after your
response I tried some more, with real success!
I rotated the path and moved it, until the shapes are lofted from X/Z to Y
direction. Last thing I'm not able to manage seems that I cannot switch the
'start point' and 'end point' (also influencing the start cap and end cap and
all the deformations) of the path in the lofter.
But anyway, you encouraged me to try some harder and I found a good time saving
setup for many purposes!! So, thanks again!
– Alexander.
>>cannot switch the 'start point' and 'end point'
Rotating it 180 degrees should do it.
– Phil
Phil,
thanks again for the hint. I turns out that this is not that easy: it all
starts with the fact, that the lofter lofts shapes _away_ from where you look
at it.
I can rotate the path 90 deg. (say in a left view) so it lofts in the Y
direction (what I want) but on the same time the shape is mirrored.
I can mirror the path after that as well (it's below the construction plane
after that) and move it up. After this the shape is ok, but start and end
vertices of the path are wrong.
As long as I want to loft shapes without deformations and start- and end-caps
this works alright.
You can check this by trying to loft a simple 'building outline' in the shape
of a letter i.e…..
Thanks anyway!
– Alexander.
Ahhh, I see what you're saying. Well, I guess this is just a confusing case
of 3DS symantics. I guess you'll just have to reverse the meaning of Start &
End in your mind for your application <g>.
– Phil
Phil,
>> just a confusing case of 3DS symantics…
that's it. Well, I can live with that. It still makes me think that flying
logos must have been on earth before architectural space…. which is hard to
live with on the other hand….<g>
– Alexander.
Being an architect as well I can sympathize (hey, they at least let us
re-able the X & Z axes). As for flying logos – could that flying icon of a
bone from 2001 be setting a precedent? <g>.
