FPU BLUES!
2 messages in this thread
O.K. all you tech buffs out there, I have a real problem, which seems to
manifest itself in both the A4000 and A1200 systems.
I recently purchased a 25Mhz Plcc FPU for my A4000, I did the instalation
myself, took all antistatic precautions, changed the jumpers over but the
thing failed to launch. I even changed the FPU for a Pga varient in case
that was the problem. Still no joy, so I gave up and continued to work
with my 030 untill I could afford the upgrade to 040.
Now this problem has reared its ugly head again on a friends machine,
A1200 (2 Chip 4 Fast, 60MbHD) He purchased an MC68882FN25A(IC12RQEBL9229)
Which apparently needs an oscillator to up the machines clock speed.
Fitting was carried out and the same results at first. A green screen
followed by a red screen followed by a black screen and nothing further.
The power light flashes as in a guru and then stops when the black screen
is seen. He seems to be lucky with the jumper set in one position the FPU
responds and sysinfo detects it. However with the jumper in the other
position the machine responds with the symptoms described above.
Any advice or help that anyone can give would be more than gratefully
recieved! Thanks for taking time to read this….

MOTOROLA 040 and AUTOPILOT ENGAGED!
Fitted a lot of PLCC 25 mhz 882 to the A4000/030.
There has been no problem but one machine. It had no FPU jumpers..
Usually you don't change anything the jumpers are correct for PLC25mz from
the factory.
It means at the cpu board it should be .-. . . .-.
