John,
I was following your thread with John T. and others about the lack of a command
line in Windows. And I came across this blurb in PC Magazine.
"Praxim Brings a Command Line to Windows
… The program is more impressive for its ability to handle most DOS tasks
directly. Praxim's command line lets you type in DOS commands. Praxim has
several enhancements over DOS itself, including a smart version of CHDIR
(change directory). If you type "cd windows," at a C: prompt, for example,
Praxim will find the Windows directory no matter what drive it's on.
You can launch any program from the Praxim command line, whether that program
is a DOS or a Windows application. Using the Praxim commands, you can modify
the internal path, change environmental variables, and copy or rename files,
all without leaving Windows or shelling out to DOS.
Like DOS, Praxim has a batch file language that lets you launch tasks easily.
You write batch files using features that mirror those of DOS batch files. You
can also search for files, evaluate mathematical expressions, prune
directories, and change file dates and times…"
And it only costs $50.
