#VT unable to genlock
4 messages in this thread
I'm just setting up a Toaster 4000 with Amiga 4000. All the equipment is new
and the card was installed by the dealer. I just got through plugging in all
the cables and tried to start the Toaster. The message I get is, "Toaster
unable to genlock."
Any ideas about what to do? Thanks in advance.
David
Well, Here is a possible problem – What kind of monitor are you using? It has
been my experience that you will get that message if your monitor is NOT an
amiga 1084. Other monitors including the Magnavox Professional series which
were suppose to work, don't.
The Toaster card is really finicky about the monitor it is hooked up to, and it
sounds like that may be your problem.
I hope this helps. What does your dealer say?
Adib:
Since I only discovered the problem this evening after the dealer closed, I
haven't talked to them, yet. I'll call them first thing in the morning, but I
was hoping someone could help me get up and running tonight.
It is one of the Magnavox Professional monitors that I have. I was told that
the 1084 has been discontinued and that's why they substituted this one. I
don't really understand why the monitor would make any difference, but I'm new
to the Amiga and Toaster worlds. Do you know why some monitors may be a problem
and whether there is a workaround? By the way, I tried starting the Toaster
with the monitor turned off and I got the same message (when I turned the
monitor back on).
Thanks for your input.
David
The Magnavox monitor requires a special cable in order to work with the
Toaster. (It's due to a difference in the way composite sync is sent). Your
dealer shod be aware of this, and should carry the proper cable. If not If not,
give me a call at Microtech (708) 851-3033 and we'll ship one out.
