#How Long to Make?

In planning for my first cd project, I could use some advice on selecting a
publisher. One thing I'm already worried about is turn around time.
How long should I expect to wait between turning over my data, which will
be nothing more complicated than a bunch of TIFF files, and getting back
about 100 cds in jewel boxes?

The good folks at NIMBUS in Charlottesville can do that in less than a
week…three days if you schedule it properly. They told us about $1,200
to deliver 100 discs, which they regard as an "introductary special."
Perhaps another $500-to-$800 if you need premastering, and a bit more if
you need to use or buy their dataware software. It seemed to boil down to
$2.00 a disc for quantity 100. Sounds like a deal to me!

I've got a lot of work to due and have to deliver a finished product May
1st, so any tips on streamlining the process would be appreciated.
They sound like a pretty good company from everything I've heard, but this
is the second time I've had to wait for something it seems like a
receptionist should be able to answer. While they have the advantage of
being almost local, is there anyone else that you can recommend for some
comparison shopping?

Yes, however my list is at my office. KAware has a pretty good broker
service; Sony Corporation is *the* biggie, of course, and then there's this
outfit in Pennsylvania.

a list of stamping houses.
NIMBUS has been very free with advice to novices like you and me, and I'd
like to see that helpfulness rewarded. Besides, you'll *love* that "cow
farm" they have outside of Charlottesville!

If you're local to DC, check out Meridian Data. They will make 'one-offs'
or pre-master and farm out the actual replication. Costs should run about
$850 for a one-off or $500 for premastering plus $2 to $4 per disc for a
stamping run (per disc cost will depend on quantity).
BIG NOTE: If you're thinking about making more than 5 CDs, its probably
cheaper to go ahead and get a stamping run. Minimum run quantities usually
start at 100 but hey! you'll have 95 spares/coffee coasters/promotional
material.

Thank for the plug Bob, but a few corrections. We provide ROMware, not
dataware, BIG difference there. Also, the premastering fee is a flat $250
and mastering is $1150 and that's really our "standard" pricing not the

Try Discovery Systems in Columbus Ohio. They do my CD's in about 5 working
days. I getting ready to put out my 3rd PD & Shareware CD. First one has
18,300 zips, 2nd one has 12,725 zips.
