#Text flying along path?
7 messages in this thread
To All,
Can anyone help me, I'm stuck at a creative blank! I'm trying to fly some text
into a scene from behind the camera. I'd like to fly the first letter in (with
banks and turns etc) and then have each letter follow the same path, with the
same banks and turns but at different speeds (to simulate the differences in
mass between large and small letters).
My question is this: Can I link each letter to the same path or something and
then adjust the keyframes to get the desired speed?
I think I just woke up stupid this morning, any help? (not for being stupid,
but for animation hints!)
Jimbo…
Simple. Just copy the animation tracks from the first letter to all the other
ones and then go into TrackInfo and move the copied keys around (with slide and
move) to get the effect you want.

Thanks Gary,
I've been using 3DS for 2.5 yrs and just drew a blank this morning. Didn't
have my diet Coke and snickers yet 🙂

Gary,
I just stumbled onto this message and had a huge A-HA! that i have been
searching for for some time; namely, copying animation paths from one object to
another object. I'm sure it's not difficult but i have not been able to find
the correct sequence of commands to do this. It would be very helpful if i
knew this. I'm guessing it's located somewhere in the manual but don't know
where. Could you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Michael
To copy the path from one object to another, just do OBJECT/TRACKS/COPY. If
you want the path to start from where the object it has been copied to is, then
do RELATIVE, if you want the object to start from where the original path was,
do ABSOLUTE.

John,
Thank you for the answer. I knew it wasn't very obscure, but like any
self-taught medium, if you've never encountered the challenge in the initial
learning curve, it's amazing how many procedures are available that you never
even know were in existence.
Many thanks,
Michael
I run into new features all the time. Since I'm not the most diligent manual
reader I usually hear about a neat feature here, then look it up and try it
out. And often I'll have an idea, not know how to implement it, figure that
this scheme I just thought up MUST be possible in 3DS, and sure enough, there
it is in the manual's index =-)
