Gemuetlich: Comfortable, cosy, snug, pleasant.
While I didn't list every possible translation of the word, I don't think
multiple variations qualifies it, for an instant, as "difficult to translate".
The authors of Langenscheidts, I would hazard to guess, have come across much
more difficult translations in their tasks <g>. I'll bet most people
(non-german) who could understand "gemuetlich" in different german
sentences/contexts would be able to understand the variations of the word based
on any _one_ of those definitions. They are, after all, commonly associated in
any thesaurus.
