Hello all, What's new? I've been away from the country and 3DS for about 2 1/2 months and am curious about new and interesting developments in the 3DS community. How as the PAR and MAX worked out? Any new IPAS3? What about the developers kit for IPAS3? I spent the time in England and visited quite a few animation houses. Some very interesting stuff. Also met John Vince – very cool CG/guru type. Let me know. James

Jonas, What's the policy on upgrades of the SDK. I bought mine about a month before 3DS r3 came around… James

Hello, James. Nice to see you back. Well, the PAR is a huge hit, and the quality is better than most expected (including myself). Folks all over the country are using it for many levels of video work. I've seen LOTS of Targa+/Diaquest "For Sale" notices around… The IPAS3 toolkit is out, and GaryY has announced that his routines (two disks of 5 or 6 modules apiece, I think) should be out by end of April/beginning of May. There are a few very cool new IPAS utilities here on the forum for the DLing. Stuff like keyboard data entry and universal lighting attribute editing. Check 'em out. -Alan

Thanks for the greeting, Alan… I thought PAR would do the trick. I've been thinking about constantly as I sipped my tea and eat my scones. It's funny, but our British friends know nothing about it, at least in the places I visited. How much are you asking, Greg? James

That's probably because PAR is NTSC and we in England need PAL. Anyone knows if PAL is out yet? Also, can you get component output from the PAR? The Matrox MAX sounds like a better system but costs lots more, and can give component output with the option on the Illuminator Pro. Chris Wee in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England

Chris, There is a PAL version of the PAR available for the European market. I believe the distrubtor is in your home country. I can check for you if you like. BTW the PAR does give component output and the quality is very good for all but the most demanding applications, ie high-end broadcast. -JE

I thought the PAL version of the PAR wasn't due out until later this year? John Tissavary (LUNA cie)

John, I called DPS about a month ago with regard to the PAR and was told it was available in Europe and was given a telephone number of the distributor to contact. -JE
