As it turns out, the BB does work, just not in my 4000. Apparently some BB
just seem not to want to work properly on Buster REV -11 motherboards. My
proof!!! I installed the same BB on an A2000 with no problems at all. I
swapped in another BB in my A4000 and this one would also misbehave. So, after
thinkering with jumpers, installing the software several times,
installing/deinstalling the hardware, I've come down to sell the BB and either
get a PC clone or look for another alternative for my Amiga. P.S. I did not
"jump" my dealer for the Janus software. Another BB user (on an A2000) let me
borrow the installation diskettes. Catya,

Oh well, perhaps a Golden Gate Vortex (name?) board would do. Of
course, a separate machine (an IBM clone) can always be linked by null
modem or using the PCx: from CrossDOS in the Amiga.

Thanks… BTW, can you run that by me again, the part about linking a clone
with the Amiga using Cross DOS, the null modem cable hook up I'm aware about
but I was not aware that you could do the same using Cross DOS, or was that a
typo of some sorts. Catya,

Mostly sloppy writing late at night! %-O
I was suggesting 2 techniques:
1. Using a null modem with communication software (or some kind of
s/w that will send info thru the serial port) on both machines
2. Using diskettes (MSDOS format) since AmigaDOS 2.x and above has
Cross DOS that can format, read, and write IBM clone diskettes

Ohhhh!!! I thought you were referring to a connection with null modem cables
between the IBM clone and the Amiga and using PC Norton Anywhere in HOST mode
on the IBM side with the Amiga running VT100 (8bits) to control the IBM side
ala running Unix programs on a host from a dumb terminal, the only drawback to
this is that there are certain programs on the IBM side that the VT100 terminal
emulation cannot run properly either because of mismatched keyboard mappings
between the IBM/VT100 or the screen does not map properly. The Cross DOS is a
given when swapping data back and forth. DAMN!!! I MISS THE BB's primitive but
effective solution. Maybe I oughta give PC TASK a try again. Catya,
There's a great program out there to do what you want called TwinExpress,
shareware with executables both for the Amiga and PC. It's like Laplink or
PC Anywhere but a bit simpler. Good throughput, though. A commercial
product should be available now if not soon from Legendary Designs
Technology. I think it's called LinkIt!
