I just loaded 3ds on a new Gateway 2000 P5-66 w/ Viper PCI Card. 3DS won't start. I get an Installation error #1404 : VESA function 0 failed or is not suppoted. It goes on to say "A required VESA function to query the VESA BIOS either failed or is not supported. Most likely, a VESA compliant BIOS is not present, or the VESA system is corrupted. You may have installed the incorrect VESA VBE for your VGA." Has anybody been down this road before I'm going start manuals tonight. Is their a 3DS driver for this board?

If you're using 3DSr3, you'll need the most-current Vibrant drivers. Get them from VIB3DS.ZIP in DL9, and install for the Viper PCI, not VESA. – G

Firstly, you should get the udpated VIB3DS.ZIP (v1.01 or v1.02) in LIB 9… there were some problems with PCI versions of the Diamond Viper. The problem you are having is because the driver is configured, but default, to use VESA mode for the Materials Editor… The Diamond Viper PCI BIOS doesn't support this mode. You should run '3ds vibcfg' to configure for a different board. The Installation Guide covers this very thoughly…
