No, the Intel/Microsoft Smart Video Recorder board is the capture & compression
hardware to create .AVI files. (MS Video For Windows).
It sells for about $600 bundled with Adobe Premier, Compel and MediBlitz.

Ok, thanks for the info. Actually I'm looking for a nice board that will
output my 640×480 resolution flcs to a regular vcr. I sent away for info on
some boards: TapeIT!, by New Media Graphics, pretty crappy, it only supports
VGA, come on guys, it is 1994, we need SVGA!
and who really is going to trust a company that sends you a photocopy! instead
of a full colour sheet. I really don't want to waste money, so ANYONE reading
this, PLEASE tell us about YOUR experiences.

Mark, I have the Truevision VideoVGA 16 and am quite pleased with the quality.
One fall back is that it becomes your one and only VGA card, it will not
tolerate competition with another board in your system. It has SVHS and NTSC
output and input, color keying and most of the other basics for a medium price.

thanks for getting back to me on this subject, would it be too much to ask, how
much you paid for this card ? and does it support SVGA animation mode, up to
1024×768 resolution ?
right now I'm running a SVGA video card, with a VGA moniter, so the highest I
can go is 640×480, but if buying a card, I would love to output 1024×768
animation to VHS tape. Have you outputted .flcs or
.flis to tape ? regular tape ?
how do you dind it ? any flickering ? how about text ?

Don't tie up your pc with an NTSC video board–buy a box instead. For
$150 you can get the Pro PC/TV box and it works great. I have one and
got it from Microwarehouse. It does everything the much higher priced
Mediator LC does at a fraction of the cost. It's extremely easy to
set up and you can travel with it, also the quality is good. It
supports SVHS
Nice to see someone on the board who is talking about a product in my
range, YES, I have heard of these boxes, they hook onto your screen
input, and can even be seen on the TV at the same time… Could you
give me more info if you could, I live in Montreal, and would have to
phone the distributor, — model number, the actual name of the
product. Have you tried recording at 640×480 onto REGULAR VHS tape,
on a normal VHS machine you would buy at your local electronics
store? This is exactly what I would like to do, this is for home
use, and I just want something that will be acceptable when watch it
on a regular VHS tape. Ok, thank you very much for telling me this,

It's called the Pro PC/TV Plus and I saw it in the Microwarehouse
brochure just last week for $150. It works great, and yes, I record
to normal VHS tape in 640x480x256 resolution. I see everything on my
TV screen as I record, so I can tell what the colors, etc. will look
like once it's on tape. This unit also supports SVHS output, and
comes with the necessary cables. Call Microwarehouse at
1-800-367-7080.
thanks for the info, I just called that 1-800 number, and they sell it
for 139.95, is the same place you paid 150 ? or was the price you
said aprox with the tax you pay in the states? .. So you have
actually tried and recored to tape, this is EXACTLY what I would
like, and … how does it look when you play your tape back and see
the animation ?, is it pretty much flicker free ?, how about colour ?
and how about text ? I really appreciate this from you!, I'm on a
limited budget, so I just want to make sure it is an ok product
before sending for it. any other info would be much appreciated.

Yes, the color is good (256 colors) and it is definitely flicker free. The
quality of the tape is okay in regular VHS, but not spectacular. I have yet to
try the SVHS option, but will try it next week when I make a tape for work with
a rented SVHS VCR. I think that if you are on a limited budget, this is
definitely the way to go. I have used it with 4 different pc's, all with
different video configurations and it has worked like a dream. Don't forget to
set your VCR on AV setting or you won't get a picture on your TV screen. If you
have any questions about the setup or loading NTSCOUT (a TSR that allows you to
control the screen placement, etc.) let me know.

How is the actual text on the screen, I only have a regular VHS machine, not
SVHS, so, I'm really concerned with 640×480 flics,
I guess the main thing is .. when you view the tape on your tv, after recoring
it to the tape, how do you rate the quality ?, do you see text pretty clearly ?
is it crisp, or smoothed?, ummm, I guess you get you vcr ready on pause, then
let your .flc rip and press play, or record ? is this how this box works ? As
long as the box is hooked up,
the output is always going through the box ?

My favorite! — Would love some 3D-STUDIO person to make a mesh
of a 20 foot alligator, or crock, with it's snout opening and closing, perhaps
even with feathers floating around as it eats it's prey.

Raymond,
There are several hardware solutions for getting windows applications out to
video tape. Many of the VGA>NTSC scan converters have drivers for windows. This
will allow you to take what you see in COREL or whatever, and send it right to
tape.
Of course, this means everything in the window, including the menus!. If you
need this for animation of text, logos, titles, etc, you may want to look at
some dedicated software packages. Of course 3D Studio is one that will do this,
and much more.
Tell us a little more about what you want your final output to look like, what
applications the final output will be used for (sales presentation, teaching,
televsion commercial, etc.), and what kind of budget you have. Then we can give
you some more specific advice.
