I've just received the May 1994 issue of Amiga World, and one item
caught my eye (Ouch!!! 🙂 ) The Dataflyer 105Mg removable HD. Has anyone
had any experience with this item? I beleive this to be the latest
incarnation of the Syquest removable HD's. Any input would be
appreciated. Thanks.

I have been using the SyQuest 105 meg drive with both the Amiga and the
Emplant without any problems at all. I saw the ads in AW and they want way
too much money, like a external SCSI w/cartridge for $539. MacWarehouse
gets $399.95 + $3.00 for next day delivery and you also get the driver
software needed for a Mac, also the cables bolt right up to the Amiga SCSI
port.
The drives now come in 105, 200, 270meg sizes, the 270 also reads and
writes to 105 cartridges. I was going to sell my 105 and go for the 270
but then I heard people over in the MAC forums complaining about the 270
trashing the 105 cartridges, so I think I'll wait a bit..
Call Customer service at 1-800-925-6227 and request a catalog. I have
only ever had one small problem with MW, they sent me the wrong CD-Rom
drive. I called them and I had the correct drive the next day and they had
the orig drive picked up at my door no charge. You can also reach them

Pardon my ignorance, but would the unit purchased from MW work with
an Amiga 500? I was a bit taken back by the price, myself. Also, I
already have a GVP HD so I guess I'd use it's SCSI port.
On a different note, did you ever live in Cambria Heights, NY?

What you need to find out is if your GVP SCSI supports removeable
cartridge drives, not all do.
Cambria Hights rings a bell, I lived out on the Island (Uniondale), but
if you knew someone with our last name it would be from our family. A long
time back we had two long Polish last names that were changed to Stasky,
so its not a common name. I moved to Dallas, Texas in 83.

Hi, Eddie-
A while back, while my A500 was in the shop, I discussed getting, at
that time, the Syquest 44/88meg drives, and my tech said that I'd be able
to plyg it right into the GVP, he then talked me out of the Syquest unit.
So, I guess, it will support the Dataflyer.
About 30 years ago I was in the Boy Scouts in Cambria Heights, and knew
a fellow named Eddie Stasky, which is why I asked.
