DO CYRIX CLOCK DOUBLER CPU's WORK ON A CBM 2386 25MHZ BRIDGEBOARD ? THEY JUST
CLIP ON OVER A 386SX CPU ACCORDING TO THE ADS I'VE SEEN. PERFORMANCE IS ABOUT

The Cyrix clock doublers work on the BridgeBoard ( that's what I am using
at the moment ). Performance gain was a Norton SI of 13.9 before to 66.5
now. No incompatibilities or problems after >2 months use on 2 differnt
machines. It is really a lot of performance gain for the money.
Just for reference, do you know what a regular 486/33 machine gets on the
Norton SI?

Last one I checked has a norton SI of 70
Aprox 72. (This is on a IBM PS/2 Model 95.)

Yes, indeed. The Upgrade is compatible with Cyrix FasMath Cx83S87 and
Intel 387SX FPUs too. Although the System is running quick I enabled
pipelining to gain a better video performance.
BTW there are some benchmarks for the cheaper (US$ 214 onwards) CX486SRX2
20/40 (you will need the 25/50 one) Upgrade :
CyrMarks 30
Winspeed 260 instead of 64
PCToolsfW 4.0 1.9
Norton SI 53,4 15.0
Landmark2.0 113.33 20.64

Several CROSSINGS readers have tried them, and they all seem to be very happy.
One caveat–the chip runs hot, the module includes a heat sink (you have to
allow 1" of clearance), but there's a question as to whether that's enough. If
you install a chip fan, you have to allow even more space. Time will tell,
especially once summer comes on.

so far, I've seen two messages that indicate success with the Cyrix,
but there is a caution. If you have the 16 MHz A2386, call Cyrix and have
them send you their test disk since some of them have a problem with the
upgrade. The 20 MHz and 25 MHz Bridgeboards work with the upgrade just
fine.
