Hi all, I have to develop a multimedia-title for the cd32 plattform. My question as an amiga novice: Is the cd32 capable of running Amiga (1200 upwards) software like Scala Multimedia? Or is there another authoring/programming tools for the cd32? It should be possible to control the playback of MPEG-videos from CD. Many thanx if anyone out there can help me, Manfred

CD32 itself is a 2MB A1200 with a CDROM, extra 512k of memory and some special chips. SCALA would not run comfortably in 2MB. However, it is said that shortly you will be able to upgrade a CD32 to a A1200. This upgrade would allow you to run SCALA. If you are interested in building products for CD32, then I would suggest you look at the CD32 version of Helm. -mark= Otto Pilot Engaged..

Hi Mark, thanks for your suggestion. Do you know where i can get some information about Helm (and other authoring systems like CanDo or AmigaVision)? I'm an absolute Amiga novice and i know few info-sources here in germany. I'm going to contact some local Amiga-Usergroups, but at the moment i need any info's i can get. Many thanks (&sorry for my bad english), Manfred

Manfred: Helm is available from Eagle Tree Software, P.O. Box 164, Hopewell, Va. 23860. Phone: (804) 452-0623. CD32 Helm hasn't been released yet. Helm 2 will be released by the end of June, and CD32 Helm will be a special version of that. Helm 2 will allow you to update your books remotely, either across a modem or through a {.special cable that connects a CD32 to another Amiga via the serial port. I *think* Jerrell Nickerson, Helm's creator, has a CIS account, but I don't know the address. If you're on GEnie, his address is J.NICKERSON, or you could stop by the very active Helm Topic on the Amiga Roundtable. Jerrell posts regularly there. We throw all kinds of bug reports, suggestions, wish lists, and other assorted curve balls his way, and he fields them all. GEnie also holds an RTC Saturday Nights at 10pm on the Amiga Roundtable to discuss Helm, and Jerrell is almost always there. Stay cool B-) -Larry

Not to forget that SCALA uses a dongle, even on the playback version, so no standalones are possible… Jochen from germany

Manfred, Hi, I produce Helm. I have not yet completed Helm for CD32, but I'll make a note to send you information when I get it ready. Most of the interest in a CD32 version of Helm comes from people interested in creating custom information systems and kiosks. Because most of these applications require new machines, I'm hoping that the CD32 continues to be available in the coming months. In any case, I plan to release Helm for CD32 in several weeks; it is nearly finished anyway. It includes support for MPEG, CD audio, CDXL, the game controller and a focusing system for selecting objects on the page. Let me know if you have any suggestions for features that you might require. I plan to upload some example applications (including the introduction of a simulated computer called the Minimiga 1000) in a week or two so you can take a look at what Helm itself is like. Hi, I'm glad I found you here. I just d/led the demo of Helm in these here libraries, and it did not work. I don't know how exactly to describe the problem, but I've had it sometimes displaying graphics. Sometimes when I open up a picture that I d/l or get from someone to look at, and load it up with multiview or VT or something, the screen that opens ups is, for lack of a better word, corrupted. It is as if the whole screen was smeared diagonally down, so that nothing is legible. Everything is just streaks of pixels. Menus included. This is how Helm was. I hope this is sufficient. I don't know what is causing your problem with the demo. What kind of system are you using? Are you using a third party graphics card? The demo is getting kind of old and I intend to replace it soon so maybe I have already fixed whatever problem you are observing. Jerrell Nickerson Eagle Tree Software

Sorry. I've got an A1200 w/ a CSA 12Gauge board w/ 50MHz 030 and 50MHz 882 and 4meg of 60ns 32bit RAM in the form of 1 1×32 SIMM. (I'm not 100% sure about the RAM specs.) I have OS 3.0. Paul

I think the problem has something to do with incompatible bitmaps. 3.0 may be assuming the bitmap is in a different format.

Really? Would that affect menus too? Paul

Don't know. Really did not try to go further past the scrambled screen when I tried the early helm demo..

Huh. It happens to me occasionally with pictures and VT or multiview too. Paul

I've got a 3.0 system and the Helm demo works just fine on it. Sounds like something's amiss on your system. Stay cool B-) -Larry

I cannot figure out your problem with the demo. I'm sure it has nothing to do with 3.0 bitmaps because the Demo book was largely created on a 1200 using the 3.0 OS. The demo is pretty old; I'll post a new one as soon as possible. Jerrell Nickerson Eagle Tree Software
