Martin: Have you heard of an IPAS or Script for wind tunnels. Like, something that lets you plug in factors such as wind speed, friction, direction, etc.? I have a customer looking for something like this. He wants to be able to model objects and place them in the "wind tunnel" to determine/demonstrate wind effects. Thanks Ken PS – How's things going? Hope to see you guys down there in Orange County again some 3rd Sat soon.

Ken, >> Have you heard of an IPAS or Script for wind tunnels. Like, something that lets you plug in factors such as wind speed, friction, direction, etc.? I have a customer looking for something like this. He wants to be able to model objects and place them in the "wind tunnel" to determine/demonstrate wind effects.<< If what you are looking for is something that kind'a looks like particles being blown by wind … then disk #6 will do a nice job. But on the other hand, what you are looking for is something that will actually compute correctly the behavior of the wind around varios and randomly shaped objects .. you are really talking about what is termed "Computational Fluid Dynamics" (or CFD). I did a little bit of this when I was an Aerospace Enginner (I guess I still am) for the Navy. Its definetly not even simple and there are an incredible amount of variables involved. This is especially true if what you are looking for is accurate lift and drag data at various angles and wind speeds. Your best bet would be for him to get a commercial CFD program or one in the public domain like VSAERO and convert the streamlines into DXF lines and then use those in 3DS. VSAERO is a vortex-latice program (only good for large effect modeling at high Reynolds Numbers) and is probably available on the Internet somewhere. Ang, President Dynamic Technologies, Inc. Ang, <<Ang, President Dynamic Technologies, Inc. An Autodesk Systems Center for Multimedia in MD>> Wow! what a title! How do I get one like that? (G) do they sell those? 🙂 So, how are things back in Burtonsville? good, I hope. -Kyle Say Hi to Chris, Charles and Margret for me.

Kyle, >> How do I get one like that? (G) do they sell those? << Its something new Adesk is implementing these days. They are having dealers apply for vertical market "medalions". Being one will allow us to more easily differentiate us from the companies who are mainly ACAD dealers at heart. Most of the "medalions" are in the ACAD relm but they did reserve a couple for us. Looks like there's a message here about an Imagine product that's going to do it. Thanks Ken

Ken, >> Have you heard of an IPAS or Script for wind tunnels << no, sorry, I haven't. You'd probably have to fake it with particle animations (tex/op material) mapped on morphable, lofted objects with lofted mapping. That way the objects could morph and flex and the animations of the particles would change shape too.

When Imagine Key Factory is released it will let do this wind tunnel effect. Mike White [SDP]

Mike: >>When Imagine Key Factory is released it will let do this wind tunnel effect.<< I assume this is will come out through Schreiber. Look forward to it. Thanks Ken

Yes Schreiber will be releasing is , but I couldn't say when. I don't even know. You can give them a call 800 252 1024 Mike
