#Tiny Metaballs
4 messages in this thread
Have you had any difficulty creating a metamesh using a group of small
metaballs? I have an appendage with fingers, but after MSHAPE the mesh does
not cover the whole group of balls, it stops where the balls are smaller. Is
there some kind of limit to sizing these things? Is there a switch somewhere I
am overlooking? Thanks.

James,
Here's your problem . . . when Mshape creates it's mesh, the detail is based on
the polygon size slider bar in the Mshape dialog. The number on the slider bar
is what size, in tenths of a unit, it will create polygons. As a general
rule, I create my base spheres for an object between 10 and 50 units radius.
Metaballs is based on the size in units of reference spheres – not relative
sizes.
I would check the size of your reference spheres, and check what value you have
for polygon size.

Thanks Kyle, I'll look into that. A quick fix I just tried is scaling
everything up. It worked fine, and I was able to keep my faces at a relatively
low number, 40. Things are moving along well now. This program is nice, I like
to model in clay, and this is the next best thing, a lot cleaner too!
