#garbage pic in 3d editor
11 messages in this thread
Brian,
Perhaps you can help me, or at least send me off in the right direction. I'm
using 3dsr4 on a p90 with an ati mach64 card. Lately, I keep getting garbage
video underneath the various windows in the 3d editor. For instance, if I pull
down a menu and click on something, when the menu goes away I'm left with
garbage video underneath where the menu was. The mouse will streak a big yellow
line through this area as well. Right now I'm using the latest mach 64 driver,
1.0.5??? but this problem has persisted all the way back to the original
installation 4 mos. ago. HELP! I'm getting so tired of this!!!

Have you noticed that it takes 3ds a bit longer to load the Mach 64 ??? We WERE
using an M64 on a P90 but after finding bug after bug we got rid of it and got
the Stealth 64 instead. Much cleaner. Our advice is to ask your vendor to take
back the ATI and exchange for another board. We ended up with the Stealth 64
which actually has better performance specs and IS supported by vibrant.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the reply. I sorta' did a reinstall, if you will, and things cleaned
up a bit. Yes, it takes a dreadfully long time to boot up 3ds. About 45 secs.
on my system. I'd like to take the M64 back, but I bought it at a computer swap
meet and I now can't find the receipt. I'm sure I have it here, somewhere….
Vibrant does list the M64 in the setup routines, but everytime I d/l a new
version of the driver, I keep reading where somebody doesn't support this that
or the other. I've heard good things about the Stealth 64, which is in contrast
to my previous experiences with Diamond. I have a Viper VLB in my 486 that took
almost 6 months to get working flawlessly. Ah well, such is the pains of
cutting edge technology.

One of the problems with the Mach 64 is 3dStudios calls to its VESA drivers.
There
is a TSR here on the forum that disbales the Mach 64 VESA driver. If you run
that before you run 3ds it will load a heck of alot quicker. Do a search on the
Mach 64 keyword and you will find it. As a matter of fact there is an
intersting thread on the subject here somewhere.

Thanks Jim,
I'll take a look around for it.

I have seen a utility up on avalon.vislab.navy.mil that supposedly fixes the
long startup times with Mach64 cards. The way I understand it the vibrant
driver polls the card
about 100 times more than it has to at startup. I'm sorry, but I don't recall a
name for the file. I also have a Mach65 card (Graphics Pro Turbo) and am very
pleased with
it except for the 3DS problems. There are also new Vibrant updates on avalon
and I believe the newest are 1.6 p5 (I could be wrong).

Brian,
Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.

Mike,
I was having a number of strange problems with R4, including some of the
garbage left behind after opening/closing dialogs, etc.. With the 4c update and
the latest Vibrant drivers, all of the problems seemed to go away.
BILL
Bill,
What 4c update are you referring to? I wasn't aware of ANY update to rel. 4.

If you have rel.4, contact your dealer or AD Customer Service for the update. I
personally believe installing the very latest Vibrant drivers was signifigant,
in my case.
BILL
Mike,
In addition to all the advice about the Mch 64 you recieved, , there is an
update the Vibrant drivers as well. Download VIB3DS.ZIP from the forum library.
