Can I Do This With CDK?
7 messages in this thread
I'm posting this question for a client who is hoping to find a software product
to create "Interactive Architectural Walk Throughs". He is currently using
AutoCAD and 3D Studio to create renderings and animations, now he wants to give
his clients the ability to "navigate" through the virtual environments. We are
aiming for a final product that can be "played back" on a typical 8meg 486
computer. One factor that makes us cautious about CDK is that he has no desire
to learn C programming. Is this a fundamental requirement to use CDK for this
purpose? Are there other software / development tools that would be better
suited for this purpose? What other forums on Compuserve should I be checking?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The main way of programming the CDK is through Microsoft Visual C++. C++ is a
bit more complicated than plain "C" but it provides a rich structure such that
you can extend and reuse software components.
The CDK also has this technology called DSCVR. It is like a scripting language
and it encompases all of the CDK functionality. The main fallback of writing
programs with DSCVR is that you must be able to understand the whole CDK class
hierarchy including all of the classes and methods. So when it comes down to
which is better I say stick with C++. Its easier to debug and integrate with
the Windows system.

Where does one get tech/purchase info from on this CDK. Would like to know a
little more about it and how to get it. Do you call AD direct??

Hi Blake,
You can find out more information on the Cyberspace Developer Kit R2 from a
number
of places. First take a look at our library section, Cyberspace/VR Kit. The
file "CDK Release 2 Description" give details about the class hierarchy and
system requirements.
That same library has some free downloadable programs, the CDK World Viewer
and the NavFlyer. Call 18008794233 to find a dealer near you.
Thanks for your interest!

in the description it states ibm, compaq or 100% compatible
what pentium 100 motherboards would fit this many thanks
Neil your pentium fits in that category of being an IBM compatible type
computer.
Thanks for the reply…very interested in the prospects..
