#Key Factory Motion
8 messages in this thread
I'd like to echo (reinforce) the desire to have all of M.G.s questions
answered, as they are all very relevent for the purchase of Key Factory.
Namely:
1) What's the price of Key Factory?
2) Are there only 4 settings for objects?
3) Does the s/w require a (#*@$&*@#) dongle?
Mike,
1) What's the price of Key Factory?
$495
2) Are there only 4 settings for objects?
No there are 4 sets which can have any of the settings and parameters specified
for each. Within each set you can have countless number of objects. Each object
assigned individual mass, elasticity, drag and friction.
Each set allows for type of collision, type of gravity, wind, rotation, scale,
hide, start frame, speed limit, frame pos at 0, and drag.
Motion Type's: Previous, to maintain current data for specified objects,
: Zero Speed,
: Linear
: Random Linear
: Random Random
: Explode or Implode
: Orbit
: Brownian
: Helix
There a sub menus to specify direction vectors, as well as toward or away from
specific objects, as well as speed for each and speed controls.
Speed can be adjusted according to World Units per frame or Random (0 to speed)
or Relative (multiplied by objects size) or Relative (divide by objects size)
and Maximum Random Speed and Path length of Object based on World coordinate
units.
You have global as well as individual settings for collide, gravity and wind.
Types of collision are: Fast moving vertex, sphere, bounding box, edge to face.
Collision Detection can be set to None or Dynamic, with Start and End times for
CD.
Accleration method: Bounding Box, Convex, and Face Bounding Box
Full rotation effects for objects as they travel based on a fixed or random
axis.
3) Does the s/w require a (#*@$&*@#) dongle?
No of course not, as per Scots comments at the beginning of the year, no new
software released by Schreiber will require a dongle.
The reason its called Keyfactory is that no other IPAS anywhere has so much
code to do so much which can generate so many keys. You can literally have
thousands and thousands of objects doing all kinds of things, to the point that
you bring the CPU to its knees.
Its literally a Keyfactory.
I hope Schreiber will put up a demo version, as its really too much to try to
explain everything this program can do. I've just scratched the surface and
highlighted the "Key" points. <g>
And its alot more than a CD module as evidenced by the different kinds of
motion one can obtain from it. Making objects move all over the place with or
without CD, based on gravity wind etc. with different rotational axis's.
There is actually a small CD demo built into the interface on the opening
screen. It also has a seperate full shaded rendering preview screen.
Help! It goes on and on!
Its the IPAS of all IPAS, a monster among monsters! Maybe that explains why it
has a 200 page manual!
John
Thanks so much for the in-depth explanation. I can well imagine just how hard
it's going to be to explain so much. It does sound like an IPAS that I'll
probably get.
For the first of oh-so-many questions you'll have to field, I'd be curious if
you think it could handle the following scenerio: Let's say I have an object
which rolls (or walks, or somethings) along an area which has other objects
(for the sake of this example, let's say blades of grass — are you following
where I'm going with this?) Could Key Factory automatically provide keys which
would push the blades out of the way of the object as it passed? If this IS
possible, just how hard would it be? (If it isn't, I understand. This whole
notion of CD and what you can do with it is mind-boggling. It's just that the
above example is something I've REALLY wished for).
Mike,
>> thanks so much for the in-depth explanation… <<
You're welcome, it was an attempt. <g> The manual meticulously documents all
its features and how to utilise them. This is the kind of IPAS you could use
for several years and not fully realise all its potential.
As far as the blades of grass go, it seems like it should be able to do it.
Having a sphere push blades of grass. that's no problem. Its the setting up of
the axis and restricting the grass from pushing over too far, that could get
rather complex. It does allow you to set up bouding boxes and will rotate
objects about their axis, so it would seem the parameters are in place. But to
be sure, I'd call Schreiber and ask. I imagine there's lots of things that it
will be used for, as there's so much it can do, that CD is almost coincidental.
Being able to select a bunch of objects and direct their motion vectors and
path lengths is pretty fantastic in itself, add collision to that, gravity and
wind and you've got some serious calculations going on…
It'll be very interesting to see what people do with it.
John
Hey, thanks John !
BILL
You're welcome Bill!
I hesitated to respond initially as I'm not as proficient as I would wish to be
answering questions about Key Factory, but on the other hand, there's so much
to it, that I think few would fault that shortcoming. <g>
John
I'm going to have to check it out, sounds very interesting.
