#Flicker off PAR
6 messages in this thread
We have built numerous huts with thatched roofs within 3DSr4. Two of
the four sides of the roof were square, but the other two were
triangle. I created the triangles by moving the four upper vertices
to the middle. When running the animation, the triangles flicker
from dark to bright. I do not know why this is happening. Any help
would be welcome. We are outputting directly to the PAR. Settings
are medium, TGA.
Steve:
I have had luck in getting rid of flickering faces by using
CREATE/FACES/DETACH. Worth a shot.

It flickers because, when you created the triangles by moving the four
upper verts to the middle, you created coplanar faces. That's a big
no-no when doing 3D animation.
Then how do I solve this problem. Can I rectify it easily, or do I
need to construct new triangles; and how would I do that. I already
went and deleted one of the faces by using Modify\face\delete, but I
still have the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, Steve. PMJI, looks like you had 4 coplanar faces, and after
deleting 1 you still have 3. Try deleting 2 more…this should solve
your problem, if I am understanding your problem correctly…good
idea to HOLD before each deletion.
Without seeing your specific file, I can't give you specific
instructions. Perhaps one of the Autodesk guys can talk you through
it.
