Is there anyway around the fact that the par strips away the alpha channel? Or should I content myself with keeping all my tga's on my regular harddrive until they have been composited ? The reason I ask is becouse keying in on a color for matting isn't cutting it. I don't think there is a way of adding a alpha channel after it's gone but a work around could be profitable for someone hint hint. -=Mike=- Maritime Graphics

I use the PAR and can tell you that in converts from 32 bit (alpha) TGA to 24 bit TGA's so you lose your keying information A better solution that keeping the entire image on your disk would be to save the MATT information. This should be much smaller then keeping the entire image on your main drive.. Bob from The Design Shop..

Thanks for the info, now if I can figure out how to make my 24 bit tga work with a 8 bit chroma key in Razor I should have a workable solution. Shouldn't be to difficult. Thanks again,-=Mike=-

Mike: Seems like Bob answered your question for me! Thanks, Bob! All I would add is that the mattes can be combined into a flic file (they're only 256 gray shades anyway) to make them even smaller. Or put them on the PAR as a second animation after the first is out there! Greg Pyros

mike you could also render with alpha split turned on – the frames will show up on your hard drive as your selected filename (example – file0000.tga) and the alpha will be saved as filename with "a-" infront of the name replacing the first two letters (example a-le0000.tga) both have there own number sequnces and the alpha channel keeps the original quality – now use something to choose you files uniquely- i just use windows file manager or par software's wildcard select to search my directory with both file0000.tga & a-le000.tga's with a wild card using the first four letters (a-le*.tga) – once selects all my alpha images are selected i import to the PAR as an .ani called alpha and import the 24bit frames and bring both into RAZORPRO locking the alpha channel .ANI as a mattte for the animation – works very well for composition work the alpha channel .ani can also be quickly converted to a flic by either using an IFL list in 3dStudio and video post – set renedered ouput to *.flc format or simply bring only the alpha .ani into RAZOR PRO and setting final output settings to *.flc or *.fli format…. Hope this helps Steve Dupuis Motion Maker Inc

Thanks for taking the time to make a through reply, it is exactly what I was wanting to know about. I'm going to study this right away and let you know if I understand it or not . The one part that I'm not sure I undrstand is selecting the alpha and the 24 bit and dropping them into Razor. I guess what I don't know how to do is "locking the alpha channel .ani as a matte for the animation. Thanks again, hope you don't mind if I ask for help again, -=MIKE=-
