MegageM is still here and with NEW Amiga products just being released now –
like RPaint 2.0, JobTracker, and FlyerCOM. We're staying!

What's RPaint? Does it run on Picasso?

RPaint 2.0 is a new AGA paint program (son of RPaint 1.0 for ECS) which is
fully ARexx-able as well as a nice interactive paint program. Not quite all
the bells and whistles of Deluxe Paint or Brilliance, etc. but thoroughly
integrated with ARexx for almost all operations of the program and very fast.
Has screen wipes and interactive mouse click sensing capabilities, too, so you
can use RPaint to make a user interface 'front end' for almost any ARexx
program and RPaint can be the graphics which ARexx never had. I believe
there's already a DEMO version of RPaint 2.0 here on this forum's library area
(I think the programmer of RPaint, Tom DeVeau, already uploaded it) and it
includes a full game demo written entirely in RPaint as well as the paint
program itself. RPaint also 'records' your painting actions directly into an
ARexx script you can edit or enhance. Altogether a pretty cool program –
paint, script paint, interactive paint, presentation tool, video tool, etc.
Just got the manuals in and have been shipping out the first few orders the

Perhaps you can inform me… What is the difference between a Picasso II,
and Picasso II-RTG? I've seen both ads in Amiga World. (The RTG was in
the ad by the maker.) Yet it says the II-TRG was voted product of the
year in 93 & 94. 93 seems to me to be about the time the Picasso II came
out. So is the -RTG a marketing thing, or later version? Do you know if
a II can be upgraded to a -RTG if they aren't the same thing?

I'm 99.9% sure there is only one Picasso II and that all you are seeing is
a difference in advertising, some people advertise it as Picasso II-RTG to
point out it has retargettable graphics, some 24bit boards don't..

What version of the Picasso software do you have? I have just tried to install
the Cybergraphics software and it tells me that in the village.library I have
the monitor file set to kHzK and I should change it to CUSTOM using the
PICASSOMODE program which comes with the software. Unfortunately, it doesn't
come with mine.

I have version 1.5 current as of April '94..
I'm a bit scared to use the "Picassomode" program it has the most stern
warning screen I've ever seen on a piece of software!
You can prolly get updates from the Picasso BBS (606 282 5943)

don't worry too much about Picassomode. If you stick to the presets then
nothing can go wrong. Just pick the one that matches your monitor closest.
If you expect to get 60 Khz from a 38 khz monitor you will end up finding some
melted plastic, off course…:-)

Steve was responding to a message from me. I was trying to install the
cybergraphics software that you told me about, but I get a message that the
village. library monitor file has kHz set, and should be set to 'custom' using
the Picassomode utility.

Indeed Peter,
but starting 40.45 you don't need to worry about that. You can use one of the
predefined monitorfiles that come with the package. Once you are registered you
can use all the possibilities, registration is not expensive, and mine came
back a week later.

I really don't know what (if any) the differnce is between Picasso II
and Picasso II-RTG… If there is a difference, wonder if one can upgrade from
one to the other… Perhaps someone else here will know…
