#PPP 1.30
15 messages in this thread
Do you have AmiTCP set up with the PPP 1.30 software right now? If so, you can
write a new dialup script for your "online" command and have it go to the
CompuServe PPP service by sending the "GO PPPCONNECT" command.
My script looks something like this:
TIMEOUT 1500
REDIAL "BUSY"
SEND "[YOUR ATDT STRING GOES HERE]"
WAIT "CONNECT"
SEND ""
WAIT "e:"
SEND "CIS"
WAIT "D:"
SEND "[YOUR UID GOES HERE]/GO:PPP89"
WAIT "ord:"
SEND "[YOUR PASSWORD GOES HERE]"
WAIT "please…"
DELAY 50
Fill in your modem's dial string, your CIS UID and password. If you have
everything else set up for PPP, you probably know how to do the rest. If you
don't, please ask.
Steve
Or replace the serial.device with dialer.device… It seems to be a cleaner
solution.

Hey, Steve, I tried your script. It works fine and all, but it connects with
8-n-1 and I get garbage if it doesn't connect at 7-e-1. Do you know any way
around this with the ppp dialer?
BTW, cruising the WWW with AMosaic on Compuserve PPP is EXCELENT!!

I get garbage at the beginning too, but after the UID is entered, the PASSWORD
prompt and everything else comes out right.
Unfortunately, my password prompt does not come out ok after the UID is entered
:^( I then get a timeout error. I do have an idea, though: change the serial
preferences in WB to 7E1. I am going to try that tonight. That came to me an
hour after I wrote you that message.

The script I run doesn't call 'login', so the password isn't required. Have
you tried looking at PPPHLP.LHA?
You have to run at 8n1, not 7e1.
I am downloading PPPHLP.LHA tonight. Thanks.

Steve,
I need some help accessing the Internet via Compuserve. I have setup AmiTCP,
and ppp.device and a DIALSCRIPT based on the one you posted to Rick. However
try as I might for the last few days I cannot get a completed connection to
Compuserve let alone into Internet. The dialer script dials, answeres and I get
garbage in response to the WAITS ans SENDS. It appears the first character is
OK but I cant be sure.
Even if I solve this problem there seems to be no step by step documentation
on the path to follow to get to the internet. What do I start when/where why?
Is there a way to use AutoPilot? At present it is the only way I can logon
to Compuserve. Somthing is wrong down here. I can't even logon on with TEM at
present to work out the scipt to create!

I just uploaded PPPHLP.LHA. Download that for more help.
Steve,
thanks for the upload, however you will see from another message of mine, I am
still no better off. I can't get past the ppp.device logon script. All I get
back is garbage to my SEND's. The first letter seems correct but everything
else is rubbish. I have seen occasionally par tof the 'you have left basic
sevices' message but its surounded with trash. I then get a few more lines of
trash and a TIMEOUT.
I am not haveing a good time of this at all!
Regards Leonard
Hmmm… Try logging in "by hand" and see what the messages are. Write down
everything you see, and what you're typing in. Use that to create a new
script. One of the last things I see here is "One moment please…", at which
point I have the script WAIT 50, and then exit. The online script takes it
from there.
If I'm logged in and do all the things "by hand" that the script does, I
eventually see something about a port and then just repeated ASCII "garbage".
That "garbage" is the CIS host trying to sync up with your PPP software.
Steve
Steve,
thanks for the response. As you may have seen, I solved the problem by
adding *AP to the end of my userid! I don't know why but it works! I also
believe that it has something to do with a 7bit connection rather than an 8,
but I didn't seem to be able to change this using preferences? My "by hand"
attempts to logon got me no where.
Anyway Its working now so I am happy, even if I don't yet understand why its
working.
Thanks again.
Regards Leonard
Leonard, I haven't tried it yet (I will tonight), but my problem is connecting
with 8N1 when Compuserve needs 7E1. Try changing the Serial parameters in
Preferences to 7E1 and see if that helps. Again, I haven't tried it yet, but I
hope it works. Other than that, I can get on by going online manually with a
terminal program and quiting it after logging on to Compuserve.

Rick,
you will see from some of my other messages that I have solved my problem.
And yes I believe that the root caiuse of my problem is the 8N1 not 7E1 ans
required. However I found that adding *AP to the end of my userid fixed it for
me. I couldn't get it to work even after changing preferences.
Regards Leonard
Yes, I read your other messages about the *AP after I posted my message. I
will try the *AP and see if it helps me. It seems kinda strange, though, but
what doesn't?
