Hello, My brother has an Amiga2000, no modem. I have a PC. Can I dnload Amiga programs to my PC, zip them up to floppies and then use them on his Amiga? If so can I use the PC version of PKZip/unzip on his Amiga or do I need an Amiga version? Thanks for any help. Todd

You can download things for your brother's Amiga and move them across IF he has CrossDOS or an equivalent program that lets the Amiga read MSDOS disks. If he has updated his OS to 2.1 or later, CrossDOS comes built in. If not, he can buy it from most any Amiga dealer or mail-order firm for less than $30. Then, you can download to 720K disks and he can read them. You can unpack the files on your PC and copy them to the 720K disks for him to use in the Amiga, or else you can get an Amiga version of ZIP for him to use to unpack on the Amiga. The PC version will not work on the Amiga, but the binary program can be read by the Amiga after it is unpacked.

Thanks Betty This helps alot, but I'm still a little confused. He can supposidly read PC 720k floppies. O.K. I need the Amiga version of Zip on his machine. Is there a self extracting Unzip/Zip utility,or one uncompressed I can include on the floppies so he can extract the other files? I have Dnloaded mostly *.lha but have one *.lzh do I need separate utilities? Todd

Get LHA138.RUN from the AmigaUser Archivers library for him. It will unpack both LHA and LZH files on the Amiga, and is self-extracting on the Amiga. I believe that our zip utilities will have to be unpacked with LHA, too.

>>Can I dnload Amiga programs to my PC, ^^^^^^^^^^ Sure, just leave em the way you get them, and unarchive them on the Amiga. AmigaDos 2.1 and later can read ms-dos disks directly. If he/she has an older version of Amigados, upgrade or get Cross-Dos. Standard Floppy drive in a A2000 can read low density only BTW. Hope this helps. -Peter
