Erik, what is wrong with GVP SCSI termination? I am having difficulties connecting a Quantum Empire 1080 to my Series II controller inside my Amiga 2000. It works well with a CD ROM and a Syquest, but it refuses to even recognize the new HD. As you seem to have a lot of experience with GVP controllers, could you maybe help? I have already tried to a) change the HDs ID b) use a different cable (shorter) c) disable my GVP A3001 accelerator. None of all this seems to work. No, no no!!!! Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! (He runs away screaming………..:^) GVP = Bad JuJu (Evil Magic) He returns to the keyboard, fingers trembling slightly: Fortunately, I have never owned a GVP device w/ SCSI controller. The one thing I finally deciphered form the manual is that if you have an external device attached, you _don't_ want termination on it?!? (At least, that's the only way I could get _one_ system to work….) You don't mention whether the new drive is internal or external? (Also, is that _all_ you were using before – one Syquest, & one CD-ROM? You didn't have an older fixed hard drive?) Erik Flom

Michael, (BTW Erik, My hands aren't trembling as I compose this reply.) I've been using a GVP A3001 accelerator & Series II controller and have six devices connected to it and it's working fine. However, I use a ribbon cable connected to the internal 50 pin header on the board and snake it out the back to each of the external drives instead of the D-25 connector on the back. When I do use that port I've had some problems, except for my CDROM drive, with it. Get a length of 50 conductor ribbon, the connectors and a crimping tool (try a local electronics shop but don't expect Radio Shack to carry the 50 conductor ribbon or connectors) and you can roll your own custom cable. It isn't too difficult to do and you can determine the exact length you need as you assemble it. Christopher
