ALL, Sorry for the length of this message. Amongst my problem of connecting to the Internet, my machine appears to have developed an intermittant fault. I will give the details below and if nyone can suggest where I should look or what it may be I would be very much appreciative. I have made no physical changes to my system between working and not working. It is basically a B2000, with GVP 030 at 33mhz, 12 meg 32 bit on board, 2meg Chip ram, OS3.1. I had been working on machine until late, no problems. Power off as normal. Next day when I started up and loaded a PPage4.1 document, (to check before moveing it to Pgs3.0g) When I attempted to switch to 100% magnification down came the machine. This was repeatable on this document. Other were ok! I didn't think much of it at the time. I then had a few other odd errors:- 7 8000 0004 gurus, 7 an "invalid F line" (or some such message.) 7 hangs on rebooting – ie all activity stops and startup does not complete. 7Loaded a Pgs3.0g document – system crash when changing magnification (key 1), test showed repeatable for this document but only when changing to the full width display! Other document no trouble!!!! (later test show no problem on another A2000 of very similar configutation.) 7 8000 0002 Bus Error (DH2:) 7 at boot screen "pings" and then restarts boot – loops this way till Ctl A A is pressed. 7 8000 0003 address errors 7 Dclock 8700 0004 abend during startup (part of my WBStartup) – this has occured a couple of times and then next boot all is ok! 7 8000 0003 Input Device when changing magnification in PageStream3.0 (My system starts auto reboot and goes to a black screen and stops – and has always done this!!??) 7 Autopilot hung after receiving CMail – manually logged of an continued (may not be a related problem.) I swapped the CIA chips (Why not!) 1st reboot was ok, 2nd, 3rd, 4th all hung part way through showing Workbench Icons. *** I did turn the two external drives off during this *** 5th (with drives back on) got a lot further then 8000 0006 6th hung before User-startup had completed its processing. 7th ok but 8000 0004 selecting magnification in pgs3.0 – screen produced some video garbage befoe it went black and all stopped. power off 2hrs and so far so good. (I think I bring it down by using Pgs on the document that causes the crash 0 its ok on other machine and an A4000/030) Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Regards Leonard

Leonard, looks like you have got a problem with your RAM chips. Open the Box, and after having cutely caressed a water tap to avoid statical electricity, try to push down all the socketed chips you can find, so they will be reseated. Also check for SIMMs to be well placed in their sockets. Sometimes this procedure will help. – wkc – … via AP from Hamburg, Germany

Werner, I tend to agree that it could be some sort of chip related problem. I have been carressing most of the socketed chips I can find. I didn't reset the GVP simms however. Maybe I should. I have been trying to document the problem for myself and it is really weird. I can recrete the problem wiht some actions on particular files. If I do the same with others all is ok! The dodgy files work on another machine (althought I have not tested them all – and I will) It's a real downer, but it teaches you to save frequently! Thanks for the response. Regards Leonard
