I'm currently in the mode of trying to get my present gf to let me at least
shave it down to the mustache/goatee…

It's wierd. Girls seem not to want to go out on a first date with a guy with a
beard, but to want the guy they already know to have one.

On the first date, the guy is usually freshly shaved. After they get to know
you, that's not always the case. A five-o'clock shadow can be pretty abrasive
on soft skin. A beard is much softer and… Well, that's enough for this PG
