#vectorised Logo's
17 messages in this thread
Hi All, I've got a problem. I want to animate a flying logo. Now the hard part
is that the logo is very complex. And it got a font that has been modernised to
a form that does'nt exist in any font library. Now I'll have to vectorise the
%)(/%S$ thing. Can anyone tell me the best and easiest way to do that. I've
tried to vectorise it in CorelDraw witn no success. And yes, I have a scanner.
It just makes an open polygon and it's hell to find where the open vertices
are. There are too many of them. HELP HELP HELP……… 🙁

Johnny,
>> I've tried to vectorise it in CorelDraw witn no success.
I've har pretty good luck using HiJack Pro, (by Inset), to convert raster
images with sharp edges to DXF files. What I've then done is to bring these DXF
files into AutoCAD for cleaning up, and then exporting them to 3DS. Maybe you
can find someone in your locale to try this. Where are you located?
John
Well John, I'm located in Duesseldorf Germany. And for what I know, I'm preety
alone here. I have'nt got any contact with other 3DS users here, because I dont
know if there are any in the area. Feeling pretty lonesome with my program. But
its great to work with. Just now and then I get some problems and then its
hard to ask someone over here.
Hi Johnny,
we`re also in Germany (Oberhausen) and only 35km in the north of you. Maybe we
can make some information exchange…
BTW: I often have to vectorise a logo and I scan it, use it in the 2D Shaper
as a background and then I trace it with the Shaper functions. That works good
in many cases.
Michael
Hi Michael! Would be glad to exchange information and experience with 3DS with
you.
Always good to learn and get help from other people. Why invent the wheel
again.

Hi Johnny!
What are you doing in Germany? Can you speak german?
We`re developing RayMan (the 3DS render engine) and we make animations for
industry videos, broadcast, advertising spots, music videos and multimedia
applications…
Michael
I'm into filmmusic. Got my own studio.
>> What are you doing in Germany? Can you speak german?
I'm married to a german girl. And yes I can speak german. But I rather write in
English. Ich schreibe nicht so gut in Deutch. Aber Ich spreche desto besser.
Johnny W
filmmusic? Very interesting. We need sometimes music for our animations. Maybe
we can do some interesting project together. You can call me by phone (much
faster dialogs then on CompuServe <g>): My phone number is 0208/85738-12.
Michael
O K I'll do that. You will hear from me this week.
>> It just makes an open polygon and it's hell to find where the open vertices

I take it you're talking about connecting them once you've imported them into
the shaper…?
If so there's a handy little feature for doing just that, its called
Modify\Vertex\Weld Selected. Works like a charm. Of course you need to select
all the vertices first… give it a try.
John
Ok I'll try that out. Do you mean I should seletct all vertices in the polygon
and weld them. In that case I' try that. I will be back to report….. 🙂
Great. I was just tryin it out and it works " just like a charm" as you said.
Now I just have to adjust the polygon to the original form.
Thanks a lot 🙂
Johnny,
>> "works like a charm" <<
I knew it would, another one of those nice 3DS features. <g>
You're welcome.
John
If importing a DXF or AI file doesn't work you can use your scan by setting it
as your background in your renderer and then using "view/see background" in the
2D shaper. You can then trace the logo. Don't zoom or anything though…the
background won't zoom with you! This is a tip I got from Steven
Elliott…thanks! Brent Bonet – POP! Multimedia Atlanta
Thanks, but the logo I'm doing is very complex so I'll have to zoom.
But thats OK. I'll fix it in Coreldraw. There I can vectorise it and edit it.
A lot of work but it works.
Johnny W
Johnny, This is for Jonas.
<< I'm doing is very complex so I'll have to zoom. >>
Hey, Jonas how about taking that as a wish, for 3DS to rescale the background
as you zoom and pan around th 2D Shaper, 3D Editor, and the Keyframer.
Mark
<< ..resize background as zoom/pan..wish >>
got it.
