I got home from my morning appointments to find a message on my machine from the gentleman I know who was part of financing arrangements in the C= auction mess. He represented a group that pulled CEI's financing after loosing confidence in Alex Amore and his legal staff. Here are the salient points of the message: 1) Alex brought in Dell when his financing was pulled and was part of the Dell team. Since they came in so late they needed the extra time to review the patents, and places so many restirctions on the bid that it was unacceptabel to the liquidators. 2) Escom wins. They're main interest is not in building Amigas; they are primarily just after the name and trademarks. They have mused about the possibility of producing a high-end graphic workstation but my source said it is not clear if they will just produce some low end stuff (primarily CD32 game box) but that will be more clear after further technolgy expertise assistance arrangements are worked out with Escom (due to start next week in Germany). Basically, if the engineering experts supplied by my source's group can "squeeze mor juice out the the lemon" than just trademarks and tradenames, Escom will be happy to take it, but they seem not that into being a manufacturer of the C= lines. 3) As part of a side agreement with Escom, the group my source represents gets world-wide distribution rights to CD32 in return for providing some C= engineers to help get the C= stuff sorted out for Escom. They are mainly interested in developing it as a set-top box for interactive television/kiosk applications (which I beleive is the main business of the group he is part of). My opinion from "listening between the words" is that Escom will probably try to assemble and sell as many machines as possible from the world-wide inventory they get, sell the rest as parts, maybe release one more ADos update (assuming rumors that it was already finished are true) then close the book on the Amiga. The patient was in a coma since 4/94, and today they pulled the plug on the life support equipment. It seems all the vital signs have gone flat. Any funeral directors out there want to set up a World of Amiga Funeral and Exposition" show? I'm sure we could round up lots of memorabilia, old software titles and "survival kit" swapping… wmc – via Autopilot!
