Is anyone here experienced with GVP phone pak? I've been using it pretty much
as a straight answering machine, and it will automatically receive a fax if it
is called in with a dedicated machine, but if they call in by voice, I can't
figure out how to allow the caller to manually initiate a fax while the message
is playing. The documentation clearly states that this is possible, but
doesn't seem to tell you how anywhere 🙁 Since GVP is belly up – I'd
appreciate any help I can get on this.

You might try Emailing John Chang or Chris Darsch. Chris is the creator of
PhonePak and John is a regular here who works with Chris.
Have you tried just starting the fax?
Also check the remote commands. Dosn't star or something start a FAX?
