Is there a Chicago area 3DS UG?? I'd be interested in talking to someone in the
area, especially the NW burbs, about 3DS training.

If you can't find a group there, how about starting one? We can help you
out. I'm sure there are other 3DSers in the area that would like to
meet as well.

Thanks for the comments, Lee. Well, I am not the expert and am trying to be
the facilitator – both for 3DS interest at our place, a large 2-yr college in
the northwest suburbs of Chicago AND also I'm functioning as the ATC manager
and trying to get a course going here. We have substantial interest.

Last time I looked there were two 3DS User Groups in the Chicago area.
1) 3DS Loop Group, downtown Chicago, sponsored by Rising Star Graphics.
Gayle Gross de Nunez should pop in soon with details on that group.
2) 3DS Users Group, Des Plaines, sponsored by Cad Station.

Hi – Gayle Gross de Nunez "chiming in" –
YES! There is an active and enthusiastic downtown Chicago 3DS user group, aka
"the Loop Group". We meet the second Tuesday of each month (unless shifted
because of national meetings like NAB), and feature a mixture of formal
presentations, help sessions, "show and tell" by members, and a lot of fun and
informal mixing and contact making.
RE: 3DS training – you are in the right place! Guru-class Heinz Schuller
teaches the 3DS courses at Morraine Valley Community College, an
Autodesk-sponsored, and VERY well-equipped site for 3D Studio and Autocad
training – and Loop Group host, Paul Lempke, teaches the 3D Studio course at
Univ. of Illinois Circle campus, downtown. Both members are generous with
their considerable expertise.

Thanks, Gayle. I know about Moraine, of course, and we have directed onesies
and twosies there on occasion. Now we have quite a group waiting as well as
lots of local interest.
We have a bunch of new 90 MHz Pentiums and should be able do a good job now.

You are pretty far away from us (Loop), but we do have people who drive in from
that far away … maybe some carpooling could be arranged?

I have often come to the Loop for The Rest of Us and similar meetings. I might
come to "case the situation" myself!! Next week I'll attack this topic in
some detail.

Second Tuesday of every month, 6:30 PM, at Rising Star Graphics, 445 E.Illinois
St. Suite 353 (North Pier Bldg.). Call Rising Star in advance to get your name
on security's checkin list, 836-7827. Formal meeting lasts from 6:30 until 9
or so, then most of us head down to Tavern on the Pier to continue informally.

I heard that you guys have been cranking out some good 3DS animations over
there at VOA. Are you going to bring a tape to the next users meeting?

Who told you that? 🙂 I will bring some tapes, but as you are aware we still
don't have a tape transfer system: have to send it out of house or to our
Orlando office. Still shopping, and wondering what to do next.

Studio training.

Not as much as your brother of course -If Drew hadn't hired me to teach that
3DS class at UIC, I wonder if I would of heard of it at all! I think that it
is great that they are having an EVE-4. It has been -what 15 years?- since the
last Electronic Visualization Event. Somewhere around here I have a schedule
of when different programs are playing in the Cave. I think that there are
about four different environments. I can never get near the thing at SIGGraph
-maybe I'll have better luck at home.

I received the CAVE schedule postcard, my 9 year old clued into it right away,
and called Drew to make sure kids were allowed. Just wondered if you knew which
if any of the four evenings would be better or easier to get into, given that
I've the same luch you did at SIGGraph. I'll call Drew myself and see what's
up.
It's always nice to sit back and see what the market place is going to do for
you, especially with video. Hope to see demo's at future meetings.
