Hi, Convert it to .TGA, TIF, .BMP etc. with Paint Shop Pro, AniConvert, Hijaak etc.., and use it as a texture map in the materials editor. Somehow I was under the impression a GIF would work this way also. I just never do it that way.

How are you trying to use the GIF file? As a material? As a background? It should work. Are you sure the file is not corrupt? Can you load the GIF into any other software? -Brian

Dear Brian, thanks for your reply. Does this work for version 2 also? I am trying to use the gif as a mesh file so that i can change how it looks such as moving the eyes and mouth around. Yes the gif works with all the other programs i have. Thanks for your help. i appreciate it. Chris

<< am trying to use the gif as a mesh file so that i can change how it looks such as moving the eyes and mouth around. >> I think I see your confusion. A GIF can not be used as a mesh file. A GIF is a RASTER image, merely dots on the screen. A MESH is a VECTOR file format. This is a datablase which allows you to move endpoints of lines, etc. I think you may be looking for a morphing program. This program would allow you to take your RASTER image and stretch or squash it into a new picture. Or you may just be looking for a good paint and animation package. Animator Pro or (soon to be released) Animator Studio might suit your needs. -Brian

Dear Brian, How much will Animator Studio cost? Also in the world creation CD it has a animation of a face and the eyes move and the mouth changes expressions and that is what i want to do. If that was made with anouther program why is it in there? And is there ANY way to take a picture with a normal camera and turn it into a mesh or to wire frame it so that I can move the wires around and put tham i different positions. What can animator studio do? What kind of program is it? Thanks Again, Chris

<<How much will Animator Studio cost? >> List price is $795.00. << Also in the world creation CD it has a animation of a face and the eyes move and the mouth changes expressions and that is what i want to do. >> I looked through the WCT and couldn't find the flic you were referring to. What is the name of the file, and which verson of the CD do you have? <<And is there ANY way to take a picture with a normal camera and turn it into a mesh or to wire frame it so that I can move the wires around and put tham i different positions>> Sure, but when you convert a GIF into a mesh, you loose the picture part. You could then map the GIF back onto the Mesh, but it doesn't always look the same. Also, when you convert a GIF into a MESH, you are not realy creating a 3D representation of the GIF, but something more like a relief map of the picture. One program that does this very well is Yost's DISPLACE. There are others as well. <<What can animator studio do? What kind of program is it?>> Animator Studio is a 24bit 2D paint and aniamtion tool. Download the file AASR1.RLS from the forum library for details. Once I see the flic you are referring to, I can tell you how it was created, and let you know what you need to get similar results. -Brian

I have version 2 of the CD. the Flic is called "Facetalk". Also I am trying to get a gif of a person into a mesh, how can you do that? I just want the shape of the person not all the picture just the outline in wireframe. Thanks, Chris

I looked at that Flic file. It would appear that they way they did this is to use a GIF file as a texture map placed onto a sphere or some similar shape mesh. Then they morphed the object into different shapes and the texture map on the face moved and stretched with it. The GIF file was never turned into a mesh. It was just placed on top of some mesh shape as a material. -Brian

I think the one he is referring to is on the R2 cd rom. I remeber a face moving around on that one.
