The Beta process has not started. It will start several weeks after SIGGRAPH.
How does one get to be a Beta Site?

For 3DS…
You would need to talk to the 3DS Product Manger. Your best bet would be to
send in a letter, company history and list of qualifications to:
Autodesk Inc.

In addition to Autodesk's 3DS beta team, Gary Yost has his own team. The
following is a recent post from Gary on that subject…
Gary Yost recently said, "since I haven't even BEGUN to put the r5 beta team
together. To be a beta site for r5, you have to either:
– have been a GREAT beta site for r2, 3 or 4
or
– have impressed me with an UNBELIEVABLE demo reel
that shows me that you stress the software to its
limits, AND that you can write eloquently, concisely
and with a sense of humor.

Thanks for the beta site info. I doubt that my demo reel would impress
Gary, most of my work involves engineering visualization, design work and data
presentation for wind tunnel experiements. I'll contact Autodesk to see if it
can be arranged.
As a side note, we are looking at DEC Alphas with NT for the future,
and would very much like to see an Alpha 3DSNT.
