#OpenGL/Glint 300SX

I saw an ad in Byte 4/95 from Omnicomp. They have a OpenGL accelerator based on
the Glint 300SX chip. The card is PCI and supports Windows NT. They also
support most other 3D APIs including Reality Lab, RenderWare, BRender, and 3DR.
It would be real nice to have R5 support these. These cards don't speed up
rendering, but they would be great for modeling and MeshPaint.
With other OpenGL cards coming out soon I can almost guarantee R5 will support
them. If not here is a wish request.

The only problem I have with Omnicomp's card is that they want $2000 for it! I
sure hope the prices come down.

I think so, it looks like it has 5MB VRAM on-board. My 4MB #9GXE64Pro does
1600x1200x65K. Can't wait for prices to come down.
Are you sure? It is not 6MB? Maybe 3DLabs could post a PR about possible
configurations, since I don't have here all the stuff the good of Osman Kent
sent me last year. Osman, are you still arround here? 🙂
Anyway, the next thing that is coming in here is one of these babies with one
of those new Sony theater-size monitors <bg> Well, maybe only the board and I
will keep with the 20s" 😉

I was only guessing. The board I saw in the ad had 16 VRAM chips on it, I
assumed it was 5MB, but I am probahly wrong. It may even have chips on the
backside also.
I'll call them and find out.

Yes it has 4mb of vram. It goes up 1280x1024x24-bit color.

Well, their $2000 Glint card is the ONLY one they make.

I meant that any card using GLiNT at 1600x1200x32bit is the max for the chip
and I think it needs at least 6MB. I don't know the board you are talking
about, so I only can comment on the tech specs of the chip.

Prices should come down, not soon enough, when more cards come to market. The
price would probably drop after I bought one for $2K. (G)
