Thought this might interest most of you who are worried about the recent Commodore layoffs… I have a Dow Jones ticker in my office, and a story just ran regarding CBM and the Amiga. CBM Chairman Irving Gould says overseas operations are strong, but the company's "U.S. operations turned in a disappointing performance based on high marketing expenses." He said "The company has since implemented a series of actions to immediately reduce costs, including a manpower expense reduction in the U. S. of almost 50 percent." Further, he said "While Commodore's Amiga sales were less than expected for the quarter, retail sales continue to show positive results and sales of the C-64 product group exceeded expectations." "The recent launch of the Amiga computer in Europe has generated strong orders." CBM President Thomas J. Rattigan says the company is striving to "break even" in the third quarter of this year, and he expects a return to profitability in the final quarter of 1986. He also said that special promotions featuring the Amiga should spur growth and sales into the fall.
