Everybody seems to keep forgetting that AmigaDOS will run in a 256K machine, try that with any Eunuchs you happen to have laying around. "Smart caching" is great…..if you have lots of memory….how much of your display memory do you want to give up for disk chaching?? I guess you never had a chance to play with one of those "great, clean file systems" of 1976 when the spec was published, wasn't as reliable as it looked. …..and any system that REQUIRES a "haltsys" command before shutting it down is not MY idea of friendly. ….and it has the MOST cryptic command language ever invented. I think its time we all get past the secret language urge we all had at the emotional age of 10 and try getting some real work done. I can't verify it today, but tomorrow a member of the BCPL standards committee will be down for dinner (he also knows a LOT more about TRIPOS than I) and I'll ask him when this whole thing was really put together. And I'd like to know what "customers" CBU should have been listening to when they were bringing out the Amiga….think of the cries of horror if their had been NO operating system while they were waiting for the "customer" to tell them what they wanted. Just because you're mal-informed about the origins of AmigaDOS, doesn't mean that it wasn't a good choice. "Not invented here"…neither Eunuchs nor Tripos was invented at CBU….don't see that meaning anything. "what does the customer know, anyway"…see above…no customers for the machine yet. "Hey, this is an experimental system"…what is? Tripos is in commercial use elsewhere. It appears that you are unaware that CBU is an international company and the prejudices of some Americans may really NOT matter to them. And….if you're really that fond of Eunuchs, go join a harem.
