#downloading

Hi, I tried to download arc.exe in order to download and unarc the arc23.arc,
but arc.exe did not work. So I downloaded chop, so I could chop arc, so that I
could unarc arc23.arc, but chop would not work either. I am using a program
called comm, that I got from the local amiga club. What should/can I do now??
Albert, first of all ARC.EXE is ARC – ARC023.ARC is ARC for people who already
have ARC – meaning that since they have arc they can download the latest
version in ARCed form. ARC.EXE is the same version # 23.
ARC.EXE does not need to be chopped – you need to rename it to ARC and it's
best put in your c directory on Workbench. Then to deARC a file you CD to the
disk and/or directory that the file you want to deARC is in and type ARC X
filename – Your problem is probably one of 2 things – either you are type ARC X
filename but ARC is still called ARC.EXE (in which case you should rename or
type ARC.EXE X filename ) or you have a bad download of ARC.EXE. Type just ARC
and you should get all the commands – if this happens then your download is
good.
If you didn't get a good download maybe you didn't respond BINARY when prompted
by CIS – if you chose ASCII then it wouldn't have worked correctly.
The help file for ARC is in DL1 – ARC.HLP (this is a text file and can be read
online or downloaded). If your copy of ARC is ok – try downloading a small
ARCed file from the Data Libraries and deARC it – if you have problems let us
know.
Hope this helps….Marlene
