#1812 Overture/Cannon

Well Mike,
I hope it isn't disappointing to you. The cannon could use a little better
rendition. It was slightly disappointing to me, as the 1812 is one of my
favourites.
Another I would love to hear (the whole thing) on DMCS is the "Thieving Magpie
Overture" by Rossini.

I guess you're right. the Amiga is a great music machine, but it just
can't compare to the 1812 Overture on CD. I've got a disk with a cannon that
will blow the walls down. The cannon for the overture is a little anemic (I
did get to hear it by deleting one of the trumpet instruments. Boy, does that
sound odd; a cannon playiing trumpet solos.) I'm all for classical music on
the Amiga. I guess one day I'll have to sit down with my old Bach organ books
and DMCS and whip(?) out a tune.

With an appropriate (sampled) cannon sound, it can do a lot better. I think
that it's just a matter of a not too good sample in the first place. CD it
isn't, but I certainly do enjoy hearing the kind of sound the Amiga can put
out.

You're absolutely right. A decent sampled cannon sound is what it needs. I
was reading the current issue of Amazing Computing; the FutureSound product
sounds (pun) terrific! And all for the amazingly low price of $175 (list) !
But seriously, it's amazing how far we've come in the past several years (ie.
my Atari 800 with 16K at about 1982). When I download some of the terrific
music many talented people have written, and play it on DMCS, I'm in another
world. The same world that I'm in when I hear the digitized door slamming or
screaming of Uninvited. This is one reason I bought the Amiga (the other was
to see the tremendous artwork of Jim Sachs).
