The seek speed of the drive is probably more important than the controller it's hooked to. Right now, though, the killer is the dos o/s. I suspect that using my own code to bypass dos would probablly run 10X faster and my code is not at all optimized for speed. The dos spends far too much time updating pointers. That's why for small partitions diskperf will write nearly as fast as it can read.
