I shall give it a try, although I have not noted any more noise strings since
changing to 7 bit no parity (but then maybe it's because my phone line is less
noisey lately?)!

Probably. I am in southeastern Idaho right now and have not seen a noise
generated character since comming here (where is that block of wood when I need
it?).
