CASE is an acronym for Commodore Association of the South East. (Southeastern United States, that is!) Its members are user groups such as HACKS (Huntsville Area Commodore Komputer Society) and LUCKY (Louisville Users of Commodore Kentucky). CASE had their third Annual Commodore ShowCASE at the Nashville Civic Center in Tennessee on May 21st and 22nd. There were speakers such as R. J. Mical who told us about the early days of Amiga. For example the Amiga company produced joysticks as a cover for the actual project of designing a new computer. It appears that quite a few people in the Silicon Valley are not adverse to stealing ideas without compensation to the author. He told us about catching the airplane for the first exhibit in the spring of 1985. He was short of sleep because of the hectic pace and was late getting to the airport. For some reason, the plane had not left. He bribed a woman with a date to get on the plane and found that one of the Amiga hardware engineers had distracted the pilot with questions about avionics until R. J. could make the plane. There were more stories, of course, but I guess most of you Amiga owners probably know them. R. J. started his speech with a short, simple explanation of the Intuition interface. My wife found it quite understandable. She is enthusiastic about our getting an Amiga as our next computer. Due to our time constraints we could do little more than attend the one speech and wander around the booths of the user groups and the vendors.
