I'm from the Government and I'm here to help all of us… Following are some interesting quotes from an article entitled "Amiga Finds Friends in Federal Offices" in the May 1 issue of Government Computer News (GCN)… "Following in the footsteps of the Macintosh, but with substantially more PC compatibility and UNIX coming along, the Commodore Amiga has established a beachhead in federal agencies" "…NASA in Houston, the Library of Congress and the National Park Service all have major deals with Commodore for Amigas." "Amigas…have become popular professional design and graphics computers because of the level of color graphics and multitasking delivered for the price…" "NASA is the current major federal user of Amigas…for computer-aided design, solid modeling, simulation, graphics design and desktop publishing among other applications." "The Library of Congress recently completed a deal to use the machines as work-stations to access optical disks that catalog library holdings. The library will also use Amigas to overlay graphics onto video for productions to be shown in a traveling exhibition…" "The Park Service will be putting Amigas at the heart of interactive video information kiosks in parks…" "Along with many graphics and design application programs, mainstream office packages such as *** WordPerfect *** and clones of Lotus 1-2-3 have sprung up for AmigaDOS… the Amiga's ability to run native MS-DOS and use PC expansion cards has helped the computer move into government." The article goes on to discuss hardware and costs for the 2000HD, the 2500, and the two bridgecards. In all fairness, much of this info. came from CBM product manager Keith Masavage, but SERIOUSLY, does THIS sound like a computer on its way out ???? One whose sales have irrevocably plateaued ??? I think not !!! This makes two points that have been argued here: 1) The Amiga DOES *need* WordPerfect for legitimacy. Well, maybe not ***NEED***, but it sure doesn't hurt. AND… 2) WordPerfect Corp. *** NEEDS *** to reconsider its decision re: the Amiga market. Who heard of Zenith clones until the Air Force ordered a million or so of their machines ??? (Please let's not get into an argument if Zenith clones are or are not any good, that's not the point I'm trying to make). I hope this adds to the persuasion.
