Buy and AMIGA?

Yes. Welcome to Mail Order Hell. We're now taking orders. Be a statistic.
Again: In ordering mail order you take the risks. If things go wrong you
should know the recourses and rights in your situation; know what you're doing.
If things go right you win.
People, be sure you know the risks. You're not immune. Commodore's official
party line: Don't order from mail order. andre
Andre, do you know where Montgomery Grant gets their machines from? I
could probably get you the serial number of a 2000 bought there. I know someone
who got one there.

We don't have the money and resource tracking that IBM had during its Grey
Market Attempted Shutdown. They couldn't do it either.
Montgomery Grant stated somewhere that they were selling at rock bottom for as
long as possible for primarily one reason: to revenge Commodore for cutting
them off, and to destroy the dealer channel.
I believe it. I hope they do neither. andre
Monkey Grant is responsible for selling rebuilt and reconditioned 2000s as new.
That is how they are making a buck. Can't blame them for taking the fastest
route to satisfying their greed, but this gives Commodore a black eye. How
about sending somebody to check them out!?

There is nothing you can do. So say the FTC: shutting them down are grounds
for a suit on restriction of trade.
They are, as far as I know, selling the machines for new. And then people say
are computers are no good because there's no support from us. Sigh.
Almost makes you want to give up sometimes; there's no justice. andre
What about coming out as Amicus Curiae in a case of bad business practices from
the Better Business Bureau, after a customer brings suit. We could find
someone who has been burned and use them as a test case? Just a thought.

Andre, the confusing thing is that all the machines they sell have a
warranty card on them. No white-out on it or nothin. By the way, they
represent, I'd bet, over 1/3 of the Amiga market in the NYC area, so if they
are trying to get revenge, they're doing it. Maybe CBM could get the NY
Attorney General in there, after I buy my machine from them, that is.

Andre,
The big question of course is where are they getting product? I know
the "normal" grey market routes…but isn't the "guy" selling to Montgomery
Grant cutting their own throat at this point?
Don
The guy who is selling to MG has tons of inventory and bills to pay, so if they
are dumping product, then no, they don't cut their own throat short term. It's
the long term ones that hurt. andre
Andre,
Oh, I know and I agree (risks through the mail). This is really the only
problem I've ever had through the mail and I've mail ordered A LOT (as has a
friend of mine recently with no problems). As you pointed out, the important
thing is to know your rights and also to be good at complaining/threatening in
case something does go wrong. In this case though, I more than made up for the
savings in aggravation. C'est la Vie.

As a good friend of mine said, "It all comes out in the wash."
But from the smell of him I don't think he's ever done laundry. 🙂 andre
