Mike: Yep, that's us… It's called the Avid/1 Media Composer and it's a
real-time, random-access, non-linear video/audio editing system based on
the Mac IIx. It lets you digitize your video footage along with CD audio
in real time onto disks, then move the frames (video & audio) around to you
heart's content, viewing the project in real time from the footage on
disk. We can store many hours of 30 fps video along with 44KHz audio on
disk. We wanted to go with the Amiga, but back when we were looking for a
platform to use, Commodore was more like Toys 'R' Us than a computer firm.
Are you an editor?
I'm not an editor: I come from the technical side of video; design and
programming. Currently I'm a video consultant, but most of my clients
(mostly schools, for some reason) are very low budget, and can only dream
about a system like yours. I see it at almost every show. Will you be at
the VideoExpo L.A.? (My bailiwick).
Mike, I'm not an editor either; I am the Systems Engineering/Administrator
at Avid so I deal more with the in-house computer systems than the actual
product, although I do occatiolly get to play with the Avid/1 (just
finished a rock video for one of my songs). It is really amazing – I'd
really like to see something this good come out for the Amiga. I don't
know if we'll be at VideoExpo LA, but I would think so. – Steve Hall –
