OOPS! Re-reading what I had previously written, I realized that I did not
mention one very important step: I removed a jumper from the Quantum hard
disk drive. Note that I did this without consulting any documentation
whatsoever — that it did what I had intended was due purely to luck. To
attach the Quantum drive to the middle connector of my three-connector
cable, I needed to remove a terminating resistor (my Syquest drive had a
terminating resistor installed). Well, there is only one removeable part on
the entire Quantum drive — a jumper that is labeled "EP", located near the
edge of the component board on the underside of the drive. I removed that
jumper. What can I say? It works…
